Top Tips for Healthy Winter Skin

Goodbye Christmas, hello New Year!!

January – it’s everyone’s least favourite month! Not only are we not allowed guilt free wine and chocolate every day like we were a week ago, the Dark, cold, damp winter days are playing havoc with our skin too! No wonder we’re all miserable!

Redness, sensitivity, dryness and tightening of the skin are all common changes this season but don’t panic that’s what we’re here for! …To look after your skin and cheer you up 🙂

First let’s get educational… it’s always important to understand why a change in our skin is taking place that way

we can get to the bottom of it!

Basically, once the winter comes our skin is exposed to harsher environments, like going from the cold air outside into a heated house inside! This affects the skin’s lipid barrier which is responsible for maintaining your skin’s hydration and firmness. Once this barrier is affected you are prone to experiencing dryness within the skin as it’s confused and imbalanced!(a bit like us this time of year!)

The acid mantle that protects the skin from bacteria, free radicals and moisture loss can also be affected. When this is damaged it can lead to sensitivity, redness or even breakouts.

Tips for Healthy Winter Skin

1. To help combat winter weather skin you’ll need to drink more water! I know you hear it all the time but that’s because it’s a fact that our bodies need it! And if we’re dehydrated it’ll show in our skin, hair and nails!
As the skin is our largest organ it’s always rather thirsty but sadly it’s the last place the water that we drink reaches so it needs a helping hand!!
